You know those little quarter-sized spots of white fur around where the knot in a tie would be? Zissou never had one before, and all of a sudden, at 15 months, she went and decided to have one.

Is that even possible?

Is it a sign of something bad?

It's definitely white fur, not bald or anything, but it was definitely gray stripeys like the rest of her and now she's got a button.

I had a dog once whose markings changed as she aged. I don't think there is anything wrong with Zissou.

Maybe you can take photos of her over time and show the markings animating!

It sounds like a 'locket'. It's a white patch of fur that develops on a cat through some unknown genetics. Its not health related, but often its a disqualifier in a show cat. I think the way you can tell is if the hair is white all the way to the skin (in other words, there is no agouti ticking along the hair shaft). Nothing major... That is, IF its a locket... Which is what it sounds like...

But I wouldn't want to deny anyone pictures of that beautiful kitty, so you'd better post them just so we can get some peace of mind!;)

Lily didn't have a white spot on her belly between her back legs until she was 6 months old. She is now about the same age as Zissou & the spot keeps on getting bigger.

I personally find the "lockets" on kitties abosolutely adorable! :)

My last cat had "underpants"... It was really funny. It was a white marking (on a black cat) on her lower stomach which was shaped exactly like a bikini bottom! Unfortunately I don't think I have any photos though.
