Spring Mewsings

  • Last updated 4/2/12 by Anne
Spring is officially here now. The calendar shows that we have moved from March, the month of Mars, the Roman god of war, to April, the month originally dedicated to Aphrodite, the goddess of love. Many of us celebrate Easter this month, while for others it is Passover, traditional holidays of spring time, renewed energies and almost literally a fresh breath of air. This is also Spring Cleaning time. If you find yourself sorting through cat-related items that you no longer require, why not sell them or offer to give away in our Market Place? In the animal kingdom... read more

Online shopping for cats - Reviewing Mr Chewy

  • Last updated 3/26/12 by Anne
The online store Mr Chewy recently approached us asking for a review of their service. Our moderator Heidi, aka valanhb, had a chance to give them a try this week and here's a summary of her experience that she wrote for our blog -   There are a lot of choices for online pet food and Mr. Chewy undoubtedly has one of the catchier names.  Is it worth looking beyond the name?  In my opinion the answer is a resounding “Yes.”   First, the number of brands and flavors of food and treats is impressive.  They aren’t filled with grocery-store variety fluff.  The vast... read more

The winner of our pet sitting story contest was chosen by a TCS staff members committee. If you haven't already read it, I'm sure you'll enjoy this story about a special pet sitter and the mutually beneficial bond she's made with Wei Wei the cat: This winning entry was submitted by Mani, who won $25 in cash, a TCS mug from our store, and a special award badge. Congratulations, Mani!   Many years ago there was a family emergency.. I had to leave within twenty-four hours and could not take my beautiful Wei Wei with me.  I have a friend, Fran, who could drop in, but... read more

March Blog of the Month - Paws for Reflection

  • Last updated 3/11/12 by Anne
Join us as blogger and journalist BJ Bangs introduces herself, her cats and her blog: Blog of the Month for March, here on TheCatSite.com.   Please, tell us about yourself and your cats -   While I’ve been a journalist for years, I’m relatively new to blogging. I started my blog in mid-October. Knowing that I wanted to establish myself as a credible knowledgeable cat writer, the buzz I was getting from an online writing class was that if you ever wanted to write a book or be published, it was a must to have a blog. I started at wordpress.com, but soon realized... read more

The first full week of March is celebrated by Pet Sitters International as Professional Pet Sitters Week. We on TCS join them in their celebrations this week.   Please check out our pet sitting resources on TheCatSite.com. We have two central articles here, one is a Pet Owner's Guide to Pet Sitting, while another deals with becoming a pet sitter: So You Want to Be a Cat Sitter.   Have you ever cat sat? Ever looked after someone else's precious feline? How did it go? If you have a special story to share, you should probably not comment here, but rather take a... read more

March is Here - Lets Go Outside

  • Last updated 3/2/12 by Anne
"March is a month of considerable frustration - it is so near spring and yet across a great deal of the country the weather is still so violent and changeable that outdoor activity in our yards seems light years away." - Thalassa Cruso   Indeed, winter is almost over and spring is in the air, or at least on our minds.   But should we let our dear cats step outside? Regardless of the time of year, letting your cat outside is always risky, which is why most cat owners prefer to keep their cat strictly indoors. That doesn’t necessarily mean your cat needs to be... read more

Why You Should Always ID Your Pets

  • Last updated 2/20/12 by Anne
On a previous blog post, earlier this month, I discussed the elements of responsible cat care. The second item on the general care list was "Make sure your cat has proper identification."   I'd like to share with you a rather heart-warming story of how the life of a black Scottish Moggie where saved this week, thanks to micro-chipping.   Sid lived with his owners, Maxine and Allan Mullen, in the county of Lanarkshire in the heart of Scotland. Three years ago, this black cat wandered outside the house and went missing. Maxine and Allan couldn't find him... read more

February Blog of the Month - Cat Wisdom 101

  • Last updated 2/12/12 by Anne
It gives me great pleasure to introduce our February Blog of the Month  - Cat Wisdom 101 - with an interview of blogger (among many other things!) Layla Morgan Wilde.   Please, tell us about yourself and your cats. Cats are a life-long passion and my creative muse. I wear many hats but they all revolve around cats: from writing, photography, life coaching to cat consulting. I founded the Canadian registered charity, The Annex Cat Rescue in 1997 to create a unique program of fostering and TNR. At the same time, as a certified transformational psychotherapist, I... read more
