Tis the Kitten Season

Written by Anne

First, my apologies for not writing more often. With all that's going on the site and elsewhere, I just didn't get around to blogging as often as I should.
The trigger for this post was a news item that I found in a newspaper from Calgary, Canada:

http://www.calgaryherald.com/life/kitty+season/3118591/story.html

If it's kitten season in the Canadian Rockies, it's kitten season everywhere!

What does the term "kitten season" make you think of?

Are you getting all fuzzy and warm inside, thinking happy thoughts about all of those oh-so-cute little kittens?

Like practically anyone who was ever involved with cat rescue work, I feel differently. To me, kitten season is all about those thousands upon thousands of unwanted kittens, born into this world because someone thought having kittens would be fun. It's about those kittens ending up as orphan kittens in the streets, or inside shelter cages, often in line for euthanasia.

The equation is simple and cruel. There are not enough good homes to go around all those sweet kittens. It's up to us to do all we can to stop them from being born.

Spaying and neutering our pet cats is the most important thing we can do for them. Please help us spread the word and refer people to this article about spaying and neutering -

Spay and Neuter Your Cats

Kitties are so cute and it's horrible how there are so many cats without a home. I agree that spaying/neutering pet cats is important and tweeted your post =)
Hello, I just came across your site this afternoon, while browsing the web in search of cat blogs. I agree with you, that spaying and neutering of kitties needs to be top priority! However I have found that a deterrent for many low-income people is that they cannot afford the cost. Fortunately, in our area, there are some clinics that offer low and no cost spay/neuter services. January of this year, my mom and I found a kitty in our backyard, under a shrub; we were very sad because at first glance he looked like he was not living. This is a wonderful orange and white kitty that belonged to our neighbors, and tho he was quite shy, we always enjoyed his walking through our property, and would say hi to him. Turns out, that his family, (our neighbors) had moved out of town several months prior, and had just left him at their vacated mobile home! We were shocked and sad that they would abandon their kitty. So we became his adopted family, feeding him outdoors as he was very scared and skittish at first, and gradually began making friends with him, and gaining his trust, all over a span of several months. "Andy" is now a very kind, loving, wonderful kitty, and I have adopted him. It took a bit of getting used to another kitty for my little kitty girl "Lucy" who has been with me for a long time; we had been a one-kitty family....however Lucy and Andy are fairly good friends now, and getting along better every day. I am excited to say that our local Humane Society offers a free spay/neuter program for feral and abandoned cats. Andy will be going in on September 7th, about 10 days from now, to be neutered. We feel so grateful that our Humane Society offers this wonderful program that is so needed in our community. I have also been inspired to start a fund to help low-income people that need assistance to get their kitties spayed or neutered. I am donating a portion of every sale of my Cat Greeting Cards, and Cat Gifts from my website, to my fund that will help assist people with spaying/neutering of their kitties. Andy also joins our staff at Real Joy Creations as assistant to Lucy who is our C.E.O. (Cat Executive Officer.) We have 7 kittens in our home at the moment. The kitten season should never end as far as I am concerned :)
I love kitties. MORE KITTIES!
I agree with your opinion here, just like Bob Barker would. Remember what he said about your pets at the end of The Price Is Right? lol .-= Jenn´s last blog ..jenns tech blog =-.
