So, You Think Declawing Isn't That Bad?

Written by Anne

Another interesting debate on our forums about this literally painful topic.

To clarify, TheCatSite.com is officially anti-declawing. That stand is clearly stated in our forum rules, but of course debates about the topic are allowed. In fact, they are even welcome, as they give us all a chance to explain once more why declawing is so bad for cats.

If you're still not sure why, let me refer you to our latest thread on the topic:

De-claw what is the big deal?

The thread has an interesting debate going, with pretty much all the revelvant issues covered. I'd like to provide you with a special link here to one post, by a former moderator known as LDG. What's so special about this post? This one is all about facts, facts, facts. Our LDG brings you well documented facts about declawing which should help you make an informed decision:

Declawing is just plain evil!
All cat owners who are considering declawing should try Soft Paws on their kitty first! They are nail caps that keep your furniture and kids safe while still allowing the cat to scratch. I use them on my cat and they are awesome. Best of all they are humane!
This must be a US website - declawing is illegal in most of Europe. It is not an issue - because it is considered a punishable crime. Gotta say I agree. My vet described the operation she was trained to do at school - which she now refuses to do. They saw off the bone - leaving a gaping open wound. It is amputation, nothing less. In the UK it is viewed as animal abuse. I'm so glad I don't have to deal with this anymore.
