Jamie's mother, Snow White, was fostered by a member of the Katzenhilfe Stuttgart e.V., a German cat rescue organization which maintains several feral cat colonies in addition to fostering and placing stray or surrendered cats and kittens. On April 28, 1999, she gave birth to a female tabby and four male tuxedo kittens. I learned of the births the same day, and promised to take one or two kittens, telling myself that I would take the least beautiful and/or smallest. Jamie, the largest kitten with the most symmetrical markings, had other plans. He decided that he was coming home with me, and let me know by jumping on my head, biting my fingers, and untying my shoes.

Arrival Story:

We brought Jamie home when he was ten weeks old. For the first two or three hours in his new home, Jamie sat in his carrier and watched us. He was familiar with me, but not with my husband, or my father-in-law, who was visiting us that evening. When he decided it was safe to come out, he explored the kitchen, where he was confined, and played with his new toys the entire night. The next morning he was allowed throughout the house, as he seemed curious and unafraid. That day, he literally disappeared before our very eyes. We tore the living room apart, for example upending the furniture. After about an hour, a very thrilled little kitten emerged from behind the radiator! For the next several weeks, we had towels stuffed behind the radiators, no curtains up, and a spiral staircase secured with safety nets consisting of tablecloths.

Favorite Food & Treats:

Jamie is a dry food fan, but deigns to eat wet food provided it comes out of a very small can, not a large can or pouch. He adores fish, and we have to cheat and give him poultry or venison with shrimp, calamari, mussels, etc., in order to get him to eat anything other than fish. Aside from people's tuna in water, his favorite treats are hardboiled eggs and crabmeat or shrimp. The commercial treats he likes best are Whiskas cat milk and Cosma Snackies (freeze-dried meat). He doesn't really like most other commercial treats, but will eat them if they resemble dry cat food.

Jamie prefers fishing pole toys like Da Bird, or furry mice on poles. His very favorite toy now is the "gnome" on a fishing pole he got from his Aunt Tammie (mzjazz2u) for Christmas. He also likes to chase balls, or his laser toy, and to hide under his Boogie Mats (filled with Plain Brown Tabby Gourmet catnip, also sent by Aunt Tammie). Cardboard boxes are a particular favorite. He loves swivel chairs, and jumps up on my "executive desk chair" every evening for a "spin". I generally stand and spin the chair while watching the evening news.

Jamie is not known for getting along with other cats, and only goes outside (every day) in a harness under my supervision. He also has constant access to a roomy screened-in upstairs balcony.
