Dr. Pitcairn's Complete Guide to Natural Health for Dogs & Cats

Written by Mary Anne Miller

"We need a new approach to pet health care…" This is how this book, now in its third release begins. And from the start of chapter one, I was hooked.

Dr. Pitcairn, DVM, PhD. is now retired and teaching post-graduate courses in homeopathic medicine to other veterinarians. He has made it his mission in life, not only to educate veterinarians about natural medicine but also pet owners. The book is dotted with stories behind the successes of perplexing animal health issues. When conventional medications failed, the owners turned to Dr. Pitcairn and his approach of holistic pet care.

He unravels the truth behind commercial pet foods. Leaving no stone unturned, he delves into all aspects of this vitally important part to our pet’s health. He examines the various toxins that show up in meat, meal and bone, and explores the hazards of growth hormones and other experimental drugs often given to livestock.

The recipes in the book have been updated to include the ingredients now available on grocery shelves. The special meats; liver, kidneys, brain and tongue no longer widely available are still included in many of the recipes. He guides you step-by-step through each recipe.

Dr. Pitcairn tackles the pollutants inside and outside the home.

There are home remedies for cleaners that do not contain irritants, or chemicals but they still get your home clean.

Bothered by fleas and the chemicals that kill them? Check out Chapter Seven for safe effective pest control.

I found this book to be enlightening, informative and at times disturbing at the information revealed on its pages. If you are looking into bringing your pet up in wellness and health; this book will guide your way.

One of the aspects of this book that impressed me the most, is that although Dr. Pitcairn is taking you on an alternative medicine path, he repeatedly stresses that if you are thinking about not trying conventional medicine, before you do anything- consult your vet.

I can see why this book has been around for over twenty years. With its new updated, user-friendly reference-guide, Dr. Pitcairn’s Complete Guide to Natural Health for Dogs & Cats is not only a valuable tool to keep on your shelf, but a vital resource guide to keeping your cat or dog healthy and happy.
