Cats and Storms

Written by Anne

Heartbreaking story in the news caught my attention. A three months old kitten got outside and managed to climb a tree. Only problem was she couldn't come down. Well, actually, it wasn't the only problem - poor Sophia was stuck up there during a long period of bad weather, having to survive pouring rain and lightning storms.

This time, the media's  attention saved this kitten's life.  An update on their website says -

After breaking this story on Newschannel9, several tree services responded, willing to help McCord get her cat down from the tree-free of charge.

Sunday night a man named Kent Baloo, who says he climbs trees and specializes in hard to reach areas, showed up, and was up and down the tree in 30 minutes, with Sophia back on the ground.

Her owner says Sophia is noticeably thinner but is doing well.

Storms can affect cats even if they are safely ensconced at home. Some cats remain calm but others either hide or run around frightened looking for a refuge. We have a thread about this very topic in the forums, where members share reports of how their resident felines deal with thunderstorms. It's interesting to read, and if you haven't done so yet, feel free to chime in with your own storm stories.

How do your cats deal with the weather? Hopefully, they are safe at home, but do they respond to the storms outside?

Poor kitten! It is heartwarming, though, that so many people were willing to chip in and help out. That's the spirit we need to see more often when it comes to animals! .-= Carrie@MaineCoonCatNation´s last blog ..Maine Coon Cat Traits =-.
Its a good thing that the cat survived through the rough weather
I think the kitten is so poor. They have no ability to deal with the poor weather. I think we must take more time to challenge our pet and protect our pet well. Thank you. .-= dvdconverter´s last blog ..AVI Converter =-.
Poor cat, good thing it survived. Don't have any storm stories since we don't get storms in southern California but do have a horrible Coyote story that I'll spare you.
It's good to know that the cat managed to survived from the ugly weather. Cats are the second most popular pets loved by millions of people all over the world. Whether you are a first time cat owner, or have been owned by several cats over the years, you know that there are a few cat health problems that you should be on the lookout for.
Cats and especially dogs hate thunder. Can't imagine what goes through their head.
My cat is outside in a storm right now! I am really worried!!! We keep calling but he won't come home what should I do?
Cats, like dogs, feel their owners. Just remain calm, let your cat sit in your lap, and doesn't matter what is going on outside. Basic and simple.
i agree with julio. i also think that the owner of the pet can make it feel calm and safe - its all about the feeling you gave it! cleaning for a reason
