Registration & Account Issues

Why do I need to validate my email?

In order to get e-mail digests of your subscriptions (stuff you care about around the site) and notifications of private messages from your fellow users, you must validate your email.

You can choose to receive any, all, or none of these by clicking the "My Profile" tab at the top of this page, then the "Edit Account" button at the top of that page. More about editing your email notifications and subscriptions here

Signing up for the site does not subscribe you to our monthly newsletter. Read more about our newsletter Kitty Bytes and how to subscribe to it.

I never got my email validation email.

If it has been more than fifteen minutes, check your Spam folder in your email client to ensure that it wasn't accidentally quarantined. To resend your verification email -

1. Log in.

2. On your logged in home page, if you have not verified your email you will see an alert next to your avatar that says, "Your email address has not been verified. Please click here to re-send."

If you're experiencing additional issues, please contact us.

I forgot my password. What should I do?

From the Password Reset page, you can send a password reset email which will include a link to change your password.

If you're experiencing additional issues, please contact us.

How do I change my password, email address, and user name?

When you're viewing your own Profile page, there is a button that says "Edit Account." From there it's very easy to reset your password, email address, and other account details.

For more information on how to edit your user profile, head over to our Community Profile Tutorial.

You cannot change your username after you have registered. If you need to have your username changed, please contact us immediately. We may be able to help you if you still haven't made more than five posts. Otherwise, you'll need to provide us with a very good reason for a change.

Read more about choosing a good username.

How can I delete my account?

Users cannot delete their own account. Our site is a community site, and as such removal of content may disrupt the flow of information in the community.

As per our rules, which members agree to when creating an account, content contributions cannot be withdrawn or retracted, nor can payments be sought in relation to this license at any time. Should a member choose to leave the site, the account, including posts, reviews, images and any other contributions to the site, will not be deleted.

You can read more about this and other topics in our Site Rules.

Can I have more than one account?

No. We have a strict policy of one account per person. Creating duplicate accounts is against our rules.

If you are locked out of your account, please contact us and we will help you regain access to your account.

There is only one situation where one person may have access to two accounts: We allow special accounts to be created for shelters and cat welfare organizations, allowing them to post their news in the Shelter News forum. Those accounts are managed by shelter volunteers and these volunteers may also have their own personal accounts on TCS at the same time. For more information click here.

Is using the site free of charge?

Yes. TheCatSite.com is 100% free of charge. We pay the bills by ad revenue and so respectfully ask that you do not block ads while using our site. If you wish to surf without ads please consider becoming a paid subscriber. Subscribers have the option to turn off ads as well as a few other perks.

What are the benefits of a paid subscription?

If you wish, you can purchase a subscription to the site. This will grant your account some privileges otherwise gained through length of membership, including the ability to post in the Market Place forum. A paid subscription also allows you to turn off ads on the site. It's a good solution for those who prefer to surf without ads while still supporting the site.

All about paid subscriptions.
